Hungarian researchers have discovered the reasons why women feign orgasm

Hungarian researchers have uncovered the reasons why women feign orgasm. A total of 400 women participated in an exclusive study conducted by researchers at the University of Pécs, aimed at identifying the psychological motivations behind this behaviour. The team published their findings, following thorough evaluation, in the International Journal of Sexual Health
Hungarian researchers’ groundbreaking study on female orgasm
According to 24.hu, the primary goal of the Hungarian research team was to determine the main psychological reasons why women pretend to orgasm. Their most significant finding was that there are at least four key motivations why many women do not tell their partners they were unable to reach climax during sexual intercourse. Thus, feigning orgasm is not a single, uniform phenomenon but rather the result of various internal motivations and relational contexts.
The team found that women who struggle to express their feelings, needs, or emotional barriers are more likely to fake orgasms. This is especially true for those who use sex as a way to relieve stress or to mitigate the fear of rejection.

According to Professor Dr Norbert Meskó, the responses of the 400 participants could be grouped into four distinct categories. Some women feigned satisfaction to avoid hurting their partner’s feelings and to maintain the illusion of pleasure. Others did so to strengthen the relationship or to compensate for a lack of intimacy—for example, when they felt emotionally distant from their partner. Another group reported that pretending to orgasm helped them feel more competent, desirable, and feminine during sexual activity.

The research may benefit both women and men
The researchers concluded that women may feign orgasm for self-protection, to preserve self-esteem, or to stabilise their relationship.
Edit Csányi, a doctoral student involved in the study, explained that women who pretend to climax are not merely acting. Rather, they are attempting to adapt to the specific situation, the dynamics of the relationship, or their emotional state.
According to 24.hu, the study provides a deeper understanding of female sexual psychology. The findings may also encourage more open and empathetic communication between partners.
Hungarian-Swiss cooperation announced by ELI-ALPS Laser Lab
The ELI-ALPS laser laboratory has announced the launch of a four-year cooperation programme, worth HUF 689 million, between Hungarian and Swiss researchers. The initiative is designed to attract Swiss scientists to conduct research at the Szeged-based laboratory in southeastern Hungary. The programme aims to foster long-term collaboration with Hungarian counterparts while enhancing the international reputation of ELI-ALPS. According to the Hungarian News Agency (MTI), the Swiss contribution to the programme stands at 85%.
