The Hungarian Semmelweis University among the top 500 universities of the world
According to szeretlekmagyarorszag.hu, the Semmelweis University improved its previous ranking and made it into the top 500 universities of the world on the London-based Times Higher Education’s (THE) latest list.
The university previously belonged to the 501-600 category but it advanced to the 401-500 ranking group on the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2018 list, which includes 1102 universities all together. The top 3 places were taken by British and American institutions: University of Oxford, University of Cambridge, California Institute of Technology and Stanford University (shared 3rd place).
Seven Hungarian universities made it onto the list with Semmelweis University in the most illustrious category. The Eötvös Loránd University, the University of Pécs and the University of Szeged belong to the 601-800 category, while the Budapest University of Technology and Economics, the Corvinus University of Budapest and the University of Debrecen are listed in the 801-1000 category.
Based on the publication of the Semmelweis University, THE takes into consideration five aspects when making the list: educational environment, research, citations, industrial revenue and international orientation.
Out of these, the university managed to better its citation index but they still perform best in the international orientation aspect. The latter is due to the rate of foreign students and lecturers, and the outstanding number of publications born in international cooperation.
