Hungarian students’ exceptional success in Brazil

Hungarian secondary school students excelled at the 59th International Mendeleev Chemistry Olympiad in Brazil, János Zoltán Szabó, the executive director of the Hungarian Chemical Society (MKE) said on Saturday.

The Olympiad is one of the most difficult competitions of its category, held in a different country every year. This year, it was organised in Brazil, between May 5-13.

This year’s Hungarian team was prepared by Gábor Magyarfalvy, a professor of the ELTE University‘s Chemistry Institute. Csaba Viczkó, a student of the Apáczai Secondary School and prepared by Péter Sebő and Attila Villányi, won a gold medal. Kata Erdélyi of the Fazekas Secondary School, prepared by Attila Albert, won a silver medal.

Bronze medals were awarded to Bence Fülöp Bíró, another student of Fazekas Secondary School, prepared by Attila Albert, as well as Péter Murközi of the Czuzor Gergely Benedictine Secondary School of Győr, prepared by Zsolt János Molnár, and János Simon of Apaczai Secondary School, prepared by Bence Varga and Attila Villányi.
