Exclusive video: Hungarian-speaking Ukrainian POW appeals for help as volunteer group Mothers’ Shield seeks publicity

Daily News Hungary has received a letter from a Ukrainian volunteer organisation called Mothers’ Shield (Щит матерей), which says it supports Ukrainian prisoners of war by helping them stay in touch with their families and by assisting in the search for missing soldiers.
According to the group, volunteers act as intermediaries between captured servicemen and their loved ones, sharing information and facilitating communication. The organisation also documents cases of missing personnel and advocates for prisoner exchanges. Their work and updates are published on their own online platforms.
In their message to our editorial team, a representative said the organisation hopes that international media coverage could help demonstrate that prisoners are being treated properly and might also support individual cases.
One such case involves a soldier of Hungarian ethnicity who has reportedly asked the group for assistance. In a video shared by the organisation, the man addresses viewers in Hungarian and asks for help in drawing attention to his situation, possibly in the hope of being included in a future prisoner exchange.
Although he speaks Hungarian in the recording, his phrasing suggests it may not be his native language.
