Hungarian underwater photographer wins international competition

Sonline reports that a Hungarian underwater photographer from Somogy County was awarded at the 32nd International Festival of Diving Films and Photography in Slovakia. Ferenc Lőrincz Jr captured a shipwreck during a dive in Egypt, which was the winner in the black & white category.

Fifteen countries participated with almost 500 entries at the competition held in Slovakia. The underwater photographer is actually an architect who fell in love with diving ten years ago and now brings his camera along on his underwater adventures. Ferenc Lőrincz Jr is an internationally recognised, award-winning photographer. Over these 10 years, Ferenc had 600 dives. He brings an SLR camera with him, which is equipped with a pressure-tight case.

The award-winning photo features a safari ship, the Heaven One, which was transporting divers in 2003 when a fire broke out and the ship sank. Ferenc was in the company of several divers at the time the photo was taken, so

he had to wait for the rest of the group to get behind the wreck, in order to have the perfect composition.

The cloud-like figures are actually the air bubbles out haled by the divers, lit by Sunrays. Only one diver is featured, as to illustrate the size of the wreck.

Ferenc told Sonline that diving photography is primarily nature photography, but as an architect, he is interested in wrecks as well. He even does fashion shootings in pools on occasion.
