The figures show that 1,426 new students arrived from Germany last year, followed by 701 from Slovakia, 551 from Romania, 458 from Turkey, 433 from Brazil, 399 from France and 398 from Spain. Additionally, there were a significant number of students holding dual citizenship, the paper said.
The largest number of foreign students, 1,382, enrolled to study medicine, followed by dentistry, veterinary science and nursing.
A total of 2,332 foreigners enrolled in Hungarian higher education last year under the arrangements of international education schemes, such as Erasmus and CEEPUS.
Magyar Nemzet noted that among the government’s strategic targets is tripling the number of foreign students in Hungary within ten years.
