According to alfahir.hu, seven Hungarian volunteers forming a health contingent set off to the scene of the earthquake in Nepal – Laszlo Turi told MTI on Tuesday, who directs the Life Sign Rescue Team of Szolnok.
Laszlo Turi said: under the auspices of Karisz Special Rescue Association, 2-2 members of three Hungarian special rescue organizations – the Life Sign Rescue Team, the Phoenix Special Ambulance and the Legott Rescue Team – and the director of a Hungarian NGO dealing with the region as a liason are participating in the action. All helpers are volunteers, ie. the cost of travel and the stay until May 5 is financed by themselves or by their organizations – he added.
He said, they stated to the UN Humanitarian Affairs Office (OCHA) they were ready to make a search and rescue team and to assist on the spot. Consulting with the organization, they eventually established a health contingent, taking into account the local needs.
Laszlo Turi indicated: they have no rescue dogs, but in addition to medical supplies, they also bring basic technical and alpine equipment to Kathmandu, where they go by airplane from Budapest with the touching of Istanbul, alfahir.hu said.
They haven’t been informed on their tasks so far, the UN OCHA will guide them what to do, Turi added.
Last weekend, a 7.9-magnitude earthquake shook Nepal. The epicenter was 80 km away from the capital, Kathmandu. The death toll is more than four thousand and eight thousand were wounded.
