Hungarian woman murdered in Budapest: Her body was stuffed into a suitcase and dragged across city

A year after the disappearance of Hungarian woman Eszter Köves, known as Chazy, police have yet to recover her body, despite ongoing searches in Budapest’s outskirts. As suspicions of foul play mounted, her partner, Viktor M., was arrested for manslaughter, yet he refuses to disclose where he buried her remains. Meanwhile, Chazy’s friends mourn her loss, with her best friend, Imola Rózsa, urging women in abusive relationships to seek help before it is too late.
Hungarian woman’s body still not found one year after her disappearance
Blikk reports that the disappearance of a Hungarian woman, nicknamed Chazy, was reported after 7 April 2024. By October, the case had been taken over by the Budapest Police Headquarters (BRFK)’s Targeting Unit, indicating that police had found evidence suggesting criminal involvement. Last Sunday, investigators questioned Chazy’s partner, 38-year-old Viktor M., on suspicion of manslaughter. He allegedly assaulted her in their shared apartment on 7 April, resulting in her death. Fearing imprisonment, he hid the body with the help of a friend, 36-year-old Csaba L., who is now under suspicion of aiding and abetting.

Friends of the Hungarian woman believe the fatal assault may have occurred in her Király Street apartment, where frequent arguments reportedly took place. The suspects dragged the body across the city, to a small forest area, where police have recently begun excavations assisted by search dogs. Reports suggest the search was complicated by the area’s history as a pet burial site, with numerous small graves scattered throughout the forest. By the time of publication, Chazy’s body had yet to be found.
Abusive relationship
As Blikk also writes, the tragic murder of Hungarian woman Eszter Köves, known as Chazy, has sparked an emotional plea from her best friend, Imola Rózsa. In a tearful video shared on TikTok, Imola urged women in abusive relationships to seek help before it is too late. She believes that had Eszter taken action, she would still be alive today.
The Hungarian woman’s disappearance from her Király Street apartment in April 2024 was initially treated as a missing person case, but suspicions of foul play arose by July. Now, her suspected killer, Viktor M., remains in custody, yet refuses to reveal the exact location of her body, which he allegedly transported in a suitcase before burying it in a remote forest with the help of an accomplice.

Her friends struggle to accept her tragic fate
Chazy was a well-known figure in Budapest’s alternative music scene, and her disappearance devastated her friends and acquaintances. Many had initially held out hope that she would reappear, but those hopes have since been shattered. While the suspect’s lawyer argues that Eszter’s death was a tragic accident following a heated altercation, her loved ones struggle to come to terms with the reality of her fate.
The police continue their search for her remains, but Viktor M. is accused of toying with investigators by withholding information. As the case unfolds, Eszter’s tragic story serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of abusive relationships, with her friend Imola Rózsa calling for women in similar situations to break the silence and seek help before it is too late.
