Hungarians at the agricultural fair in Casablanca
More than 1200 exhibitors from 60 countries have participated in Africa’s biggest agricultural fair, SIAM, in Casablanca, Morocco. There was a huge interest in the fair, and Hungarians would also have several opportunities in the region, globoport.hu writes.
There was a huge crowd at the fair; the tickets were really cheap: €3 for adults and €1 for kids. Exhibitors were constantly competing with each other: who has the best, the most colourful, and the most attractive stand.
Many African countries have undergone drastic changes in the past few years, and they are not as dependant on international aids as they used to be. Several countries export agricultural goods, and there’s also a huge market for importers in the food industry. This ensures several possibilities not only to potential transporters, but for workers in the tech industry and in the construction industry, because factories also need to be built. There’s a huge potential in the rapidly growing African market, and in this sense, Morocco is the gate of Africa.
Several countries have discovered the potential in Africa, and these fairs attract huge crowds. Hungarians also participated in the event, József Steier, the Hungarian Trade and Cultural Center’s expert on Morocco (HTCC), said. Hungarians can offer several services to Morocco that are shaped to the African country’s needs and fit into the country’s “Green Plan” (Morocco plans to reduce the size of desert area). Steier said that negotiations are already going on concerning the dairy industry.
Steier emphasized the importance of the province of Dakhla in South Morocco. The kingdom is eager to spend money on developing the region, and HTCC has great connections with the leaders. Steier sees excellent opportunities in the country for experts and companies in the food industry and in the agricultural industry, and urges companies and businessmen to participate in the upcoming Hungarian business delegation in the region.
