Budapest (MTI) – Hungary has always acted in line with the common European position concerning the sanctions against Russia, the foreign ministry said on Tuesday in reaction to recent comments by Romanian Prime Minister Victor Ponta.

Reuters quoted Ponta as saying earlier today that “I don’t want to talk about a neighbour but I think that Hungary’s position towards Russia is not only a matter of concern for Romania, it should be an issue to discuss at European levels.”

The Hungarian ministry said that Hungary had always acted in line with the European position despite the significant negative effects it had on the Hungarian economy.

Citing Eurostat figures, the ministry said that, despite the sanctions and the embargo, Romania had been able to increase exports to Russia by 5 percent.
