Hungary has emerged as one of the world’s most AI-ready outsourcing destinations, placing fourth in a new international ranking and achieving the highest population-level artificial intelligence adoption score among all 25 countries examined.

The 2026 Global Outsourcing AI Readiness Index gave Hungary an overall score of 69.1 out of 100. This placed the country behind only India, Brazil and Malaysia, while narrowly ahead of the Philippines, Chile and Czechia.

The result makes Hungary the highest-ranked country in Central and Eastern Europe, underlining its growing potential as a destination for technology-supported business services and outsourced work.

Hungary AI readiness stands out in everyday adoption

Hungary’s strongest result came in the population AI adoption category, where it received 86 points – the highest score among the 25 outsourcing destinations included in the study.

The country finished ahead of Bulgaria, which scored 82 points, as well as Brazil with 79 and India with 78.

According to the 2026 Global Outsourcing AI Readiness Index, the population adoption category assesses how widely AI tools have entered the daily lives of working-age residents. It considers current use, the pace of adoption and whether infrastructure such as internet access, electricity and smartphones can support further growth.

The result does not mean that 86 per cent of Hungary’s population necessarily uses AI. The figure is a comparative index score showing that Hungary performs close to the top of the selected group across the indicators examined.

Nevertheless, the ranking suggests that Hungarians are highly open to using generative AI and other artificial intelligence tools in everyday life.

Hungary leads Central and Eastern Europe

Hungary also outperformed every other Central and Eastern European country included in the ranking.

Czechia placed seventh globally with 66.9 points, followed by Bulgaria in ninth place with 62.8. Poland finished 11th with 61.2 points, while Romania ranked 13th with 59.4.

For international readers, Hungary already plays an important role in the regional business services sector. Budapest and several major university cities host shared service centres, software development teams and multilingual corporate operations serving customers across Europe and beyond.

A high level of public familiarity with AI could make it easier for Hungarian employees and companies to introduce AI-supported workflows, particularly in administration, customer service, finance, information technology and digital marketing.

Hungary received 67 points for enterprise AI adoption, placing seventh among the 25 destinations. The category measures whether companies have moved beyond testing AI and begun integrating the technology into their regular operations.

Hungary ranked behind India, Brazil, Malaysia, Czechia, Chile and the Philippines in this area, but remained well above most countries examined.

The figures indicate that Hungarian businesses are adopting AI at a relatively rapid pace, although corporate implementation has not yet reached the same level as public enthusiasm.

Hungary’s workforce AI literacy score was lower, at 54 points, resulting in 15th place in that category. Workforce literacy covers factors such as the concentration of AI specialists, the strength of the developer community and the availability of professional AI skills.

The 32-point difference between population adoption and workforce literacy was the largest among the six highest-ranked countries. Rather than diminishing Hungary’s achievement, the gap highlights an opportunity: public interest in AI could provide a strong foundation for professional training, workplace development and education programmes.

A promising position in the AI-driven economy

The index combines four areas: population AI adoption, workforce AI literacy, enterprise adoption and the AI education pipeline. These categories account for 30, 30, 25 and 15 per cent of the final score respectively.

The authors stress that the ranking is a snapshot rather than a prediction, and that it focuses specifically on countries competing for outsourced work. Scores are relative to the group examined and should not be interpreted as absolute measures of national technological development.

Even with those limitations, Hungary’s fourth-place finish represents an encouraging result. Its strong public adoption score indicates that AI is already becoming familiar to many people, while its regional leadership could strengthen the country’s appeal to international companies.
