Hungary government rejects ‘groundless’ criticism of anti-paedophile law

The Hungarian government has rejected what it called a “groundless offensive” by multiple European governments against Hungary over its new law on the protection of children and imposing stricter punishment for paedophilia, saying that the legislation was based on the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union.

The government’s official note verbale issued in response to a joint statement by 16 EU countries criticising the law was shared on Twitter by Zoltán Kováács, the state secretary for international communications and relations, late on Wednesday. Kovács said the signatories had not read the law and were not familiar with the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights.

In the note verbale, the government said several EU governments had launched “a groundless offensive” against Hungary in recent days. “Hungary rejects these attacks,” it said. The new law does not discriminate against anyone, the government said, adding that it was in line with EU law and was based on the regulations of the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights.

“The Hungarian law protects children’s rights and guarantees those of the parents, it does not apply to adults,” the note verbale said.

It said the joint statement cited the law incorrectly and left out substantive parts of the text. “The regulation put forward in the law protects children from all forms of sexuality, therefore it cannot be considered discriminative,” it added.

The government underlined that the law prohibits “the autotelic display, in the case of children, of not only homosexuality, but also sexuality as a whole”.

“Hence, the regulation is neither homophobic, nor heterophobic,” it said.

The note verbale cited the declaration in the EU Charter of Fundamental rights that “the right of parents to ensure the education and teaching of their children in conformity with their religious, philosophical and pedagogical convictions shall be respected, in accordance with the national laws governing the exercise of such freedom and right.”

In line with the EU Charter of Fundamental rights, sexual education in Hungary is primarily the task of parents, the government said. It added that everyone in the country was free to express their sexual identity, arguing that Hungarian laws guaranteed fundamental constitutional rights to all minorities, including sexual minorities.

“We call upon the governments of the signatory countries to refrain in the future from groundlessly defaming Hungary,” the government said.

  1. This is all very mixed up and I would say that gay people in Hungary are most certainly not free to express their sexual identity. Wasn’t it only a few years ago that on a pride march even the police were throwing eggs at participants. I think it was 2010. I don’t think time has moved on that much.
It should not be the parents responsibility to educate their children on sexual matters. Not wishing to be rude, but some parents won’t have the time or ability to discuss this with their children. The government is merely using the paedophile law to implement these changes, and this is something entirely different. Sex education should be taught in school, whether straight or gay. That way everything is learnt, precautions, diseases etc. Best to have the knowledge than be ignorant. It’s 2021. This is how it is.

  2. And now some questions for the eternally-mysterious “Anonymous” :

1.) HOW MANY CHILDREN DO YOU HAVE ?

2.) IF THE ANSWER TO QUESTION 1. IS YES, WERE YOU AMONGST THOSE PARENTS THAT DIDN’T ‘HAVE THE TIME OR ABILITY TO DISCUSS THIS (ISSUE) WITH (YOUR) CHILDREN’ ?

3.) IF THE ANSWER TO QUESTION 2. IS YES, WERE YOU SATISFIED WITH THE ‘SEX EDUCATION’ TAUGHT TO YOUR CHILDREN IN SCHOOL ?

4.) DO YOU BELIEVE THAT BECAUSE IT IS NOW 2021, CHILDREN SHOULD BE ‘EXPOSED’ TO CERTAIN INFORMATION WHICH EFFECTIVELY ‘DEPRIVES’ THEM OF THEIR INNOCENCE IN CHILDHOOD OR ARE YOU OF THE OPINION THAT CHILDREN UNDER 18 YEARS OF AGE SHOULD BE TAUGHT EVERYTHING ABOUT SEXUAL MATTERS, INCLUDING THE PERVERSITIES PRACTISED BY MANY PEOPLE IN MODERN SOCIETY ?

    Just wondering …..

  3. Anonymous, do not waste your time with orbanist trolls
Just like their leader, they have the mindset of the Middle Ages and think the way the Inquisition used to. Discussing with people who think like relics of a remote past is useless, worthless. The best about it is that some day, hopefully soon, they too will be a relic, not only their thinking. The new generation will kick them out of History.

  4. Thank you Mario. Better to live in a world where teenagers are educated properly than live in a world of total ignorance, which is obviously what justwondering does. It’s so small minded to think all gay people are perverse. How sad to have that view. Some straight people are the worst in society.

  5. I am absolutely certain that neither Anonymous nor Mario are qualified psychologists.

How dare you even suggest innocent minds and psyche to be destroyed by information they are NOT ready for.
When children are ready for this kind of information, they will indicate and or ask questions.
THERE WILL BE PLENTY OF TIME TO EXPLORE THE DIRECTION THEY WOULD LIKE TO TAKE.

The point I am trying to make is take your filthy hands off OUR CHILDREN.
This is not the language I am accustomed to using but it seems the decent use of the English language doesn’t seem to hit the mark.
Further more heterosexuals don’t go around shouting and displaying their sexuality, it is NOT THE DONE THING.

  6. Ah, yet more instructions from “Mario” and “Anonymous” as to how us Hungarians should not only think / speak but also behave.

It all reminds me of those supercilious half-wits in the European Commission and Brussels – as well as certain sexual perverts such as the leaders of Luxembourg and the Netherlands – who keep trying to get Hungary ‘into shape’.

As the words go in “The Sound Of Music” :

    ‘ Climb every mountain,
    Ford every stream,
    Follow every mountain,
And then to Hungary you can SCREAM !’

Personally, I think it’s about time that “Anonymous”, “Mario”, Brussels and the European Commission are shown an ENORMOUS middle-finger.

Let them have their filthy illegal Muslim migrants, revolting sexual deviants, political correctness and other disgusting manifestations of a decadent society on the downhill path to total oblivion but leave Hungary (and Central / Eastern Europe) out of their insane plans.
