Budapest, September 17 (MTI) – Hungary plans to build a fence along a 70-kilometre section of its border with Romania to prevent the entry of illegal migrants, the foreign minister told public Kossuth radio on Thursday morning.

Szijjarto announced the government’s plan to build a fence along a “reasonable” section of the Romanian border on September 15.

Explaining the move, the minister said that people smugglers acting along the border with Serbia were changing their route due to the fence there, and migrant pressure is likely to shift in the direction of Romania.

The fence will start from the Hungarian-Serbian-Romanian border, he said.
