Hungary receives prestigious tourism awards from China

Hungary has received four prestigious awards granted by China’s national tourism board for its “outstanding performance” in the sector, the Hungarian Tourism Agency (MTÜ) said on Monday.

The most prestigious among the National Tourism Fashion Awards ranks Hungary among the “Top 10 Most Anticipated Travel Destinations” for 2021, MTÜ said in a statement. Hungary is the only country in central Europe selected for the gong, which in Europe as a whole also went to France, Germany and the Netherlands, the agency said.

Hungary received three other awards at the event held in Beijing.

Data by the national tourism data centre (NTAK) show that some 5,000 Chinese tourists came to Hungary last year and spent 46,000 guest nights in commercial accommodations, with 72 percent staying in Budapest.

This year, Hungary has already received more than 7,000 Chinese tourists who spent 33,000 guest nights in the country. The majority visited Parliament, Margaret Island, St Stephen’s Basilica, the Fisherman’s Bastion, the Citadel and the Gozsdu Court.
