Hungary among ‘winners of new world order’, FM Szijjártó says

Unlike the European Union, Hungary “belongs among winners of the new world order”, the foreign minister said, adding that “the sovereigntist, patriotic side needs to win the April election so that the achievements can be sustained.”
Speaking at the Budapest Global Dialogue conference, Péter Szijjártó noted the emergence of a new world order in wake of a succession of crises in the past decade and a half, adding that “nothing will ever be the same as before.”
The minister slammed Brussels for its inability to address challenges, insisting that it led to a “weak, insignificant and isolated” bloc. Hungary, however, gained strength by confronting hardships head-on, he said, adding that Brussels kept undermining US President Donald Trump’s peace efforts and the EU was not prepared for peace.
“Europe is in a state of complete frustration due to its isolation. So European leaders see the war in Ukraine as our own war, but it isn’t — Russia has not attacked a single EU state; this is a war between Russia and Ukraine,” he said.
“Ukraine is fighting for itself rather than for us, so we don’t owe them anything. We firmly oppose Hungarian taxpayers’ money being spent on a war we have nothing to do with,” Szijjártó said.
He said that while the EU had isolated itself from global powers like the US, China, and Russia, Hungary had gained “significant appreciation” through its consistent foreign strategy in the past 16 years, he added.
“It has been a strategic goal to make the four power centres of the world interested in Hungary’s success, and we have managed to achieve this,” he said, adding that Prime Minister Viktor Orban was the only European leader in a position to engage with the presidents of the US, Russia, China and Turkey.
“Meanwhile, Brussels’ strategy has failed; the EU is one of the big losers in a new world order. The strategy of dividing the world into blocs has failed. The new world order is based on patriotism, a result of a global patriotic revolution. We are proud that this revolution started in Budapest,” Szijjártó said.
