Hungary’s new adventure pool complex opened this week – PHOTOS
From 14 September, visitors can explore Harka Water World, the new adventure pool complex of Harkány Thermal Spa, consisting of an indoor adventure pool, a spa and wellness section, an outdoor swimming pool, three slides and a diving tower.
Harkány is famous for its unique thermal water that rises from a depth of approximately 50–70 metres. The history of the Harkány Spa and Pool Complex goes back to 1823 when Harkány Thermal Water was first discovered, and the Batthyány family decided to build bathhouses in the area. The average temperature of the Harkány Thermal Water is 62°C, and its mineral content is more than 1000 milligrams per litre. From a medicinal point of view, its most valuable component is carbon sulphide (COS), which was discovered during the chemical analysis of the water in the 1860s. Sulphurous medicinal waters are mainly recommended for rheumatic problems, lymphatic disorders, psoriasis and chronic inflammation in the case of gynecologic patients.
During the last few years, the range of wellness services offered at Harkány Thermal Spa has been expanded with Jacuzzis, steam shower cabins, Finnish saunas, infrared sauna and Kneipp pools. The spa and pool complex is also a perfect destination for families with small children: in the “children’s realm”, a waterfall, a treasure cave, a pirate ship slide and a water canon awaits the youngest visitors. In 2019, Harkány Spa and Pool Complex was awarded the ‘Bath of the Year’ title.
This autumn, Harkány Thermal Spa’s repertoire was expanded with a new indoor adventure pool complex: with a total of 766 m2 of water surface and three slides, Harka Water World is now open to guests all year round.
The new pools are located on the ground floor of the spa building, and they are connected to an outdoor swimming pool, Travelo writes. The 0.95 to 1.2-meter deep adventure pool provides active recreation for both younger and older visitors. Adrenaline junkies can splash into the pool out of the yellow and blue turbo slides or test their skills on the diving tower and climbing wall. Those who just want to immerse themselves in warm water can relax in the hot tub, and the Harka Water World also has a separate family slide. Besides several swimming lanes, the spacious outdoor pool’s versatility is enhanced by built-in benches that encourage socialisation and relaxation.
