Budapest (MTI) – A group of 18 illegal migrants have cut through the metal barrier which is being erected on the border with Serbia near Asotthalom, public news channel M1 reported on Friday.
The illegal immigrants attempted to cross to Hungary on Thursday night but police detained them, the new programme reported.
Asked about press reports that the fence at this point is half as high as originally planned, the government spokesman told MTI that the current state of affairs is temporary and construction would be carried out according to the original plans.
Hungary is building a fence along a 175km border section with Serbia to stop a massive wave of illegal immigrants.
The structure is scheduled to be completed by Aug. 31.
By Friday, more than 110,000 illegal immigrants had crossed to Hungary, the spokesman said.
