The inaugural match of MTK’s stadium with Sporting Lisbon
Budapest, October 13 (MTI) – Prime Minister Viktor Orbán attended on Thursday evening the inauguration ceremony of Hungarian soccer club MTK’s new Nándor Hidegkuti Stadium in Budapest.
“Hungarian sports would be unimaginable without MTK,” the prime minister said in his address. “MTK … is a club that encompasses the victories and the greatness of Hungarian sports [and also] embodies its pain and losses,” he added.
After the ceremony, the MTK and Portugal’s Sporting Lisbon played on the inaugural match in the new stadium. Orbán said, it was an homage to one of the great success stories in the history of Hungarian soccer when the two teams faced each other in the 1964 UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup final.
