Is it really worth ignoring road traffic safety? − Two people died in Budapest
During the last three days, two tragic traffic accidents happened in Budapest. Both victims died at the scene.
A 14-year-old girl was fatally struck by a train on Wednesday. The accident happened between Budatétény and Barosstelep stations, in an area equipped by noise barriers. According to MÁV’s (Hungarian State Railways) announcement, the girl could not hear the approaching train because she was listening to music, Origo reported.
The girl was wearing headphones while she was crossing an area where pedestrian traffic is prohibited.
The second accident happened on Thursday on tram line 1. According to Index, a man tried to climb through the area between the tram wagons at the tram stop at the intersection of Hungária körút (Avenue) and Ajtósi Dürer sor, but he fell under the tram and got stuck under the bumper where the driver could not see him.
The 37-year-old man suffered fatal injuries, and the tram dragged his body for a mile and a half. According to reports, the victim’s remains were scattered in two places.
The police are investigating the circumstances of the case. Eyewitnesses have reported that his bag was full of medicine-like substances, so the possibility of suicide attempt cannot be ruled out.
