JD Vance stays an extra day in Hungary, Budapest Airport-area closures expected on Thursday

US Vice President J. D. Vance has extended his visit to Hungary, staying an extra day in Budapest and travelling home on Thursday, according to Hungarian media reports.
Budapest’s public transport authority BKK has warned that the vice president’s movements have already caused rolling traffic restrictions across Buda, and that the focus of closures will shift to the airport area on Thursday, with knock-on delays for airport buses.
Rolling restrictions in Buda and possible evening disruption downtown
On Wednesday, BKK said restrictions primarily affected routes in the hills of Buda — including the Zugligeti út–Béla király út–Istenhegyi út–Szent Orbán tér corridor and surrounding roads — and that additional, smaller restrictions in the city centre could also occur later in the day.
Police have also been publishing district-by-district notices about temporary traffic order changes linked to the visit.
Thursday: airport area closures may temporarily block access
BKK has cautioned that on Thursday the restrictions will concentrate around Liszt Ferenc International Airport, where road closures can make the airport temporarily inaccessible during security movements.
That may also affect the capital’s key airport links:
- 100E (airport express bus from central Budapest)
- 200E (metro–airport connection)
BKK warned these services could be held for 30–40 minutes during restrictions, and urged passengers to set off significantly earlier than usual to avoid missing flights.
For international readers: the 100E is the dedicated airport bus from the inner city, while the 200E links the airport with Budapest’s metro network — so delays can ripple through both tourist and commuter journeys.
Police said detailed information on road closures and changing traffic orders will be published on their official website.
