Jewish Cultural Festival to be held in early September in Budapest
The 20th Jewish Cultural Festival is to be held in seven venues in Budapest from September 3 to 14, organisers told the press on Wednesday.Â
The festival, which was until last year known as the Jewish Summer Festival, is to present the values centuries of close contact between Hungarians and Jews have brought to this country, András Heisler, leader of the Federation of Jewish Communities in Hungary (Mazsihisz), said.
The Dohány street synagogue in central Budapest is to feature a joint concert by Budapest Klezmer Band and Budapest Bar, as well as concerts by pop singer Zsuzsa Koncz and jazz formation Trio Midnight with Béla Szakcsi Lakatos and Tony Lakatos. Cantors Shmuel Barzilai, Nikola Davis and Gergely Nógrádi will also perform.
Opera singer Sylvia Sass’ aria concert and “Gypsy musical” Somnakaj will be performed in the Goldmark Hall in Budapest’s 7th district.
Other performers will include the Sabbathsong Klezmer Band, the Hungarian 100-member Gypsy Orchestra and the Budapest Jazz Orchestra.
