Lawmakers support Budapest 2024 Olympic Games bid
Budapest, July 6 (MTI) – Lawmakers on Monday voted to support the Hungarian capital’s bid to host the 2024 Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games.
The motion was approved with a vote of 151 in favour, 33 against and four abstentions.
The motion was supported by lawmakers of the allied ruling Fidesz-Christian Democrats, with the exception of Fidesz’ János Bencsik, who abstained, as well as MPs of Jobbik and two independent lawmakers, Gábor Fodor and Zoltán Kász.
The voting was observed by officials of the Hungarian Olympic Committee, 60 Hungarian athletes and Budapest Mayor István Tarlós.
The Budapest Municipal Council will make the bid jointly with the Hungarian Olympic Committee.
