FOTON available in Hungary
Today, it is one of the world’s top-selling commercial vehicle brands, boasting the broadest model lineup. This event is also a historical milestone: Hungary is the 10th European country where FOTON is officially entering the market. This is not only a significant event for the Hungarian commercial vehicle segment, but also a new chapter in FOTON’s global expansion.
At the event, I was able to personally get to know FOTON‘s full freight transport portfolio, as well as the business opportunities behind the brand. For me, one of the highlights of the day was the real off-road test drive of the TUNLAND models.
Getting behind the wheel as a layman, I was absolutely blown away by how effortlessly the Tunland models handle, even under difficult off-road conditions. Although I am personally a lover of classic cars, it is undeniable how much modern technology simplifies driving—practically under any conditions. Since I’ve had very little to do with off-roaders, I would have easily gotten lost among the abundance of functions and buttons without the instructor’s guidance, but after a short introduction, the vehicle felt so familiar, as if it had been mine for a long time.
Although today’s car prices can often be shocking, I must say that Foton has entered the scene with a highly competitive offer. However, I didn’t find the most impressive model among the off-roaders, but among the light commercial vehicles in the form of the Cavan C1: in exchange for an affordable price, you get an electric van that is not only highly practical, but also exceptionally well-equipped.
Generous pricing
Technically speaking, this model is a real treat: it is not a conversion of a diesel van, but is built on a dedicated electric, low-floor platform co-developed by Foton and Bosch. For a starting price of HUF 9,990,000 net, you get a remarkably modern vehicle equipped with a weight-adjustable suspension seat. Depending on the version, it offers a cargo volume of 7–9 cubic meters, while its 105 kW motor and CATL battery enable a WLTP range of up to 333 km, plus it can be charged at an impressive 125 kW from a DC station.

Although Foton is not a new brand globally, it is still a newcomer to the Hungarian market. Because of this, buyers might initially view it with understandable reservations, as there are no long-term local experiences regarding its reliability and durability yet. However, the manufacturer offers extremely generous warranty terms. For instance, the Cavan C1 comes with a 3-year general warranty with no mileage limit, 5 years or 200,000 km for the powertrain, and 8 years or 400,000 km for the battery, which won me over at first glance. If they can maintain this level of quality, the Chinese brand could have a bright future ahead in Hungary.
