Leaked Pentagon docs: this is how Hungary supplies Ukraine with arms
Leaked war files shed light on Europe’s involvement in the war in great detail. They also show Hungary’s official passive involvement. Politico has uncovered a document according to which Hungary may be secretly helping allied countries transfer weapons they donated to Ukraine.
Europe has an active presence in Ukraine. The leaked Pentagon documents reveal that Poland and Slovenia provide almost half of the tanks supplied to Kyiv. This time, Politico has looked through the 53-page dossier and found some interesting facts – even about Hungary.
Hungary allows allies to use its airspace?
The leaked US documents hint that Hungary may secretly allow allies to use its airspace to transport weapons towards Ukraine. Politico points out that they are doing so despite public pledges to prevent any such shipments. One of the leaked documents details a plan for the transfer of Mi-8 military helicopters from Croatia. The document indicates that the most likely scenario is that the Ukrainian pilots would fly directly from Croatia to Ukraine via Hungarian airspace, Portfolio reports based on Politico.
“If true, the information would not only show Hungary is letting arms pass through its skies, but also contradict press reports indicating the helicopters would be transferred on the ground or through flights into Poland,” Politico writes. Hungarian and Croatian officials did not respond to Politico’s requests for comment.

Politico: Hungary regularly embarrasses its allies
Hungary is described by Politico as a state that regularly embarrasses its allies, napi.hu reports. The documents recall a March 2 “top secret” CIA report that Hungarian PM Viktor Orbán branded the United States “one of his party’s three greatest adversaries” at a political strategy meeting on February 22.
The report also discusses the “escalation of the level of anti-American rhetoric” from Orbán.
According to the news portal, the Orbán government has set its own course during the war. He promotes pro-Russia narratives, essentially calling on Ukraine to give itself up, while rejecting any effort by the allies to isolate Russia’s economy.
