LMP proposes setting up border guard force
Budapest, July 13 (MTI) – Asylum procedures in Hungary have become “pointless”, as it is now almost impossible to receive asylum and this has led to a rise in people smuggling, a spokesman for opposition LMP said.
This trend has also increased the burden on Hungary’s police force which is already struggling with shortages in staff, as officers have been dispatched to perform patrol duties on the borders, Ferenc Gerstmár told a press conference.
LMP proposes as a solution that the government should set up a separate border guard unit, he said, adding that the party urges regional cooperation of authorities until that measure is implemented.
