The lowest water levels ever were recorded at several points along the River Danube over the past three days, according to a statement by the Hungarian authorities on Wednesday.
The river in central Hungary was especially low. At Ercsi, a level of -67cm was recorded (the previous record low in 1970 was -36cm). In Dunafoldvar the waters reached -172cm, while in Dunaújváros they dropped to -55cm.
It is unlikely that water levels will drop further in the next few days, the National Technical Management Board (OMIT) said.
