BREAKING: Several Budapest flights cancelled due to Israel’s attack against Iran

Israel launched a sweeping military operation against Iran early Friday, with airstrikes carried out by a total of 200 warplanes, targeting Iran’s nuclear program and long-range missile capabilities. As a result, multiple airlines cancelled their flights in the region, and some countries closed their airspace. The changes also affect Budapest flights.

Israel attacked Iran with 200 warplanes

The Israeli attack was followed by quick Iranian retaliation, including drone and missile strikes. Although the USA, China, the European Union, Russia, and NATO all urged de-escalation, it does not seem that the situation will stabilise soon.

Meanwhile, planes disappeared from the airspace of Israel, Jordan, Iran and Iraq since multiple airlines diverted and cancelled their flights in the region. The changes also affect Budapest flights.

Several Budapest flights cancelled following the escalation

According to Utazómajom, a Hungarian air travel-focused media outlet, airlines try to avoid the airspace of Syria and Lebanon. Provided no airspace closures are introduced (like what happened in Jordan, Israel and Iran earlier today), the airlines are free to decide whether they fly into the airspace of a given country or not. Of course, diverting flights means longer flight times.

Israel’s international airline, El Al, temporarily suspended all its flights to Budapest and other destinations. Furthermore, Wizz Air’s W62325, Ryanair’s FR839, El Al’s LY2366, and Bluebird’s BZ441 flights were cancelled from Budapest to Tel Aviv.

According to Budflyer, the Budapest flight of Qatar Airways’ Airbus A320 landed in Cairo, Egypt, today.
