MyCloset Budapest, fashion in the name of protecting the environment

The fashion industry has a disastrous impact on the environment but what do you do when you want to be fashionable and environmentally friendly? For instance, visit MyCloset Budapest, whose mission is to make every women feel beautiful for that special occasion.

Melanie Matolcsy grew up in NYC as a Hungarian-American citizen watching Sex and the City and loving fashion. She believes that when we’re able to wear what makes us feel beautiful, we can be our best selves. Yet we have challenges finding the perfect dress in Budapest  – we’ve spent a lot of time and money on our dresses, but never had what we wanted.

She decided to change that by building  “MyCloset”: a dream closet filled with selection of designer styles. Think of trend, color, prints, everything you’ve ever wanted to wear. 

As many of us know, the fashion industry has a disastrous impact on the environment. In fact, it is the second largest polluter in the world, just after the oil industry. And the environmental damage is increasing as the industry grows.

Clothing has clearly become disposable. As a result, we generate more and more textile waste. Research has shown that a family in the western world throws away an average of 30 kg of clothing each year. Only 15% is recycled or donated, and the rest goes directly to the landfill or is incinerated. 

This is why MyCloset is the solution to today’s fashion.

With “MyCloset”, why buy when you can rent and reuse dresses to feel beautiful yet protect the environment. Melanie believes that renting is the future of getting dressed and she would love to share her store with others in Hungary 🙂
