National, Budapest heat records shattered as heatwave continues to rage this week – Hungary weather forecast

The national heat record and the Budapest early morning and daily heat records were broken on Sunday, the national weather service said. The heatwave will continue to rage this week too, likely bringing the highest sustained temperatures we have experienced this summer.

National, Budapest heat records broken

HungaroMet said on its website on Monday that the temperature reached 39.9 degrees Celsius in Körösladány, southeast Hungary, on Sunday, nearly 1 degree up from the previous national record registered in 1948. The early morning temperature was 25.5°C on János Hill in Budapest on Sunday, breaking the previous record of 24.2°C recorded in Lágymányos in Budapest in 2017.

On Sunday afternoon in Budapest the temperature reached 38.7°C at the Újpest monitoring station, breaking the previous record of 37.9°C recorded at the Országút station in 1948.

Heatwave remains in Hungary

The heat will continue throughout this week, and according to forecasts, we are facing the hottest week of the summer so far. Today, strong winds may still blow in several places, and in some areas, temperatures might even remain below 30 degrees Celsius. However, in the coming days, this will give way to another intense heatwave.
