Navaratri Garba & Dandiya celebration in Hungary: Budapest shines with Indian colors and dance

This September, Budapest will shimmer with the vibrant spirit of India as the local Indian community invites everyone to celebrate Navaratri, one of India’s most beloved festivals. With the support of Indigo Express and Flavours by India, the Hungarian capital will host two magical evenings filled with traditional dance, live music, authentic food, and joyous festivity.
A festival of dance, music, and tradition
At the heart of the celebration is Garba, a traditional folk dance from the Indian state of Gujarat. Known for its energetic circular movements and colorful attire, Garba is more than just dance—it’s a community ritual symbolizing unity and devotion. Its cultural significance was recognized globally when it was recently added to UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
Alongside Garba, participants can also enjoy Dandiya Raas, a lively group dance performed with decorated sticks that brings both rhythm and excitement to the festivities.
