Nearly 100,000 Hungarians Commute Through Border

labour market

Budapest, September 1 (MTI) – Nearly 100,000 Hungarians working abroad commute daily, weekly or even less frequently, head of the Central Statistical Office (KSH) Gabriella Vukovich said in an interview published in Monday’s daily Magyar Hirlap.

International migration statistics are currently not available for the exact number of Hungarians who moved abroad with their families to work there. Many migrants keep moving from one country to the next and from time to time move back home for a certain period. As such, migrants represent a fluctuating mass of people and it is very difficult to assess their number, she said.

Most countries in Europe are facing similar demographic challenges as Hungary, with only immigrants preventing a decline in their population figures.
