Nearly 500 organ transplants performed in Hungary in 2015
Budapest (MTI) – A total of 497 organ transplants were performed in Hungary in 2015 including a lung transplant carried out for the first time in the country, the National Blood Transfusion Service (OVSZ) that coordinates transplants said on Monday.
There were 343 kidney transplants, 89 liver transplants and 51 heart transplants performed at medical centres at universities in Budapest, Debrecen, Pecs and Szeged. The number of combined kidney and pancreas transplants was 13.
The number of kidney transplants increased by 26 percent and the number of liver transplants went up significantly, compared with 2014, the OVSZ said.
