New era in Hungary-US relations with Trump’s inauguration, says ambassador

The start of US President Donald Trump’s second term in office has ushered in a new era in the history of the United States as well as in Hungary-US relations, the Hungarian ambassador to the US said in Washington, DC, said on Tuesday.
After four years of the Hungarian government having to work with a US administration “on the complete opposite side of the political spectrum”, Hungary-US ties can be a lot closer now under the new administration, Szabolcs Takács said at a reception hosted by the Hungarian embassy in honour of the delegation of European conservative politicians who attended Trump’s inauguration.

Takács said the respect Hungary had shown its US partner under the Biden administration had not been reciprocated. Meanwhile, he said the establishment of the Patriots for Europe party in the European Union offered a sound basis to “make Europe great again”.
The reception was also attended by the secretary of state of Indiana, representatives of American civil groups and think-tanks as well as the leaders of Hungary’s Center for Fundamental Rights.

Hungary is part of Europe, right? Did not hear him utter any exceptions for us in the Davos address. There was something about five (5) percent military spending, though. And tariffs, trade restrictions and sanctions (which our Politicians repeatedly tell us do not work).
