Orbán cabinet reacted to US President Trump’s first executive orders

It is clear from US President Donald Trump’s first executive orders that “pro-war and pro-migration madness” has come to an end and “the era of peace, security, national sovereignty and common sense” has come in instead, Péter Szijjártó, the foreign minister, said on Tuesday.

He said Hungary had battled not to be pushed into war in recent years, nor to be forced to accept migrants. Further, it had fought against being “forced into gender madness and to expose our children to it”, he added in a statement. Szijjártó added that it was welcome that the US president had similar views on these issues, and that he wanted peace and security and respected national sovereignty. Also, “he thinks the same as we do: a person is born male or female,” he added.

Hungary, he said, would double down on its political ambitions to “live in peace here in Europe” and ensure that “everyone respects national sovereignty”. Hungary will also work to ensure that the family is seen as “society’s bedrock”, he added. The minister said that Hungary would pursue its strategy of “economic neutrality”, enabling the country to continue setting investment records and provide a job to anyone who wants one.

Why was PM Orbán not invited to Trump’s inauguration?

There is much speculation as to why Prime Minister Viktor Orbán was not invited to the inauguration, and also no member of the Hungarian government was officially invited to the ceremony. The prime minister’s political director was the last person in the government to speak out on the matter.

A lot of Hungarian politicians are out there, so we are celebrating the international conservative takeover in Washington, but the Hungarian prime minister will travel to the US capital when the US president can discuss relations between the two countries, Balázs Orbán told Index. The prime minister’s political director told the newspaper that the US inauguration ceremony is a kind of “party” and it makes sense for the prime minister to travel to the United States when he can hold substantive talks.

If it is a party, it is not a good time for negotiations, Balázs Orbán said.

On a similar occasion, the Orbán cabinet considered the inauguration of Argentine President Janier Milei an important event, so Orbán happened to be travelling to Buenos Aires in South America.

Orbán gave a very critical speech in Budapest on Monday:

PM Orbán: May the devil take the foreigners, and the Hungarians be cast into the deepest pit of hell!
