New Hungarian dog breed recognised: here is the Sinka! – VIDEO
The new Hungarian dog breed, the Sinka, received official recognition yesterday. The World Cynologic Hunting Sports Alliance has classified this new breed among shepherd dogs. However, the Sinka is notably faster and more muscular than the well-known Puli.
Sinka, the new Hungarian dog
We wrote multiple articles about the famous Hungarian dog breeds like the Pumi, Puli, Mudi, Kuvasz, Vizsla, and Komondor. Check out, for example, THIS and THIS article, where you may find photos with descriptions.
The Sinka breed was developed in Hortobágy (Hungarian Great Plains) from a mix of already mixed dogs, including Boyers, German Shepherds, and dogs with ‘bull’ in their names.
In 2019, their number was below 2,000. This low number was advantageous for shepherds as it kept the breed relatively unpopular and less favoured by non-shepherds. The Sinka is a robust and hardworking breed that is affectionate towards humans. It shares similarities with the well-known Kuvasz, Vizsla and Puli.
Not yet a household pet
The name of this new breed comes from the Hungarian phrase “sima szőrű” (smooth-haired). Sinkas are quick learners, agile, and muscular, essential traits for their regular work with Hungarian Grey Cattle or sheep.
They are sometimes mistaken for the Pumi, a breed developed in the 17th century, which has since become more domesticated.
As of 2019, experts advised against keeping Sinkas as indoor pets due to their high energy levels. They require ample space, such as large gardens.
According to Hukosz, a Hungarian organisation specialising in dog breeds, the Sinka is Hungary’s tenth internationally recognised dog breed.
Interestingly, the WCHSA’s international dog show for all breeds will be held in Hungary, starting at 10 am on 8 September at the “Happy Dog Kutyaiskola” in the 10th district. HERE are the details.
