New list of the 100 wealthiest Hungarians: PM Orbán’s son-in-law, friend at the top

Lőrinc Mészáros, a Hungarian businessman who was a mediocre entrepreneur until the 2010s, sits on top of the list of the wealthiest Hungarians with a wealth reaching 1.6% of the entire Hungarian GDP. István Tiborcz, who married the prime minister’s eldest daughter, Ráhel (active in the tourism sector), is the 11th wealthiest Hungarian with HUF 188 billion (EUR 465 million).
New list of the wealthiest Hungarians
According to Blikk, a Hungarian tabloid, the combined wealth of the 100 richest Hungarians in 2025 exceeded HUF 11,000 billion (EUR 27 billion), HUF 2,000 billion more than in 2024. The increase is 22%, exceeding even last year’s unprecedented growth.
The 10 wealthiest Hungarians have HUF 5,138 billion, almost half of what the cumulated wealth of the rest of the top 100 Hungarians is. At the top of the list is Lőrinc Mészáros, PM Orbán’s friend. Mészáros was an ordinary entrepreneur before Orbán won a supermajority in 2010. Afterwards, he started to win public procurements one after the other. By 2010, he emerged into the top 100 wealthiest Hungarians and became the wealthiest some years ago. His fortune is estimated to be HUF 1,422 billion, which is 50% higher than last year.

Sándor Csányi, the CEO of OTP Bank, comes next with HUF 820 billion, while his wealth was HUF 700 billion last year. In the 3rd place, Zsolt Felcsuti can be found with HUF 526 billion. Here is the rest of the Hungarian top10:
- Tibor Veres with HUF 480 billion;
- György Gattyán with HUF 441 billion (well-known as the founder of LiveJasmin and Teqball);
- László Szíjj with HUF 370 billion;
- Dániel Jellinek with HUF 336 billion;
- Gellért Jászai: he was 13th last year, but acquired HUF 264 billion this year, he is the owner of 4iG;
- Gábor Széles with HUF 258 billion;
- István Garancsi with HUF 221 billion.

István Tiborcz, the prime minister’s son-in-law has HUF 188 billion (EUR 465 million) and acquired the 11th position on the list. He is followed by Lajos Kasza, Gábor Futó, György Wáberer, and Tamás Leisztinger.
There are only two women among the 100 wealthiest Hungarians. Mária Schmidt is in 17th place with HUF 133 billion (EUR 329 million). She is the director of the House of Terror Museum in Budapest and a strong supporter of Orbán. Schmidt caused a public outcry in Hungary in April after writing that the Ukrainians massacred the Ukrainian locals in Bucha in 2022. The other woman on the list is Kamilla Hermann in the 48th position and HUF 64 billion.
Who are the most influential Hungarians?
A new list of the most influential Hungarians compiled by 11 analysts found that PM Viktor Orbán is still on the top. He is followed by OTP head Sándor Csányi, the wealthiest Hungarian Lőrinc Mészáros, FM Péter Szijjártó, National Economy Minister Márton Nagy, and National Bank governor Mihály Varga. The rest of the top10 are minister Antal Rogán and János Lázár, Zsolt Hernádi, the CEO of MOL, and, in the 10th place, Orbán’s son-in-law, István Tiborcz.
Orbán’s main challenger, Péter Magyar is in the 16th position and, among opposition politicians, only Budapest Mayor Gergely Karácsony is on the list in the 36th place. DK head Klára Dobrev and his ex-husband, former PM Ferenc Gyurcsány are no longer on the list.

Miraculous wealth increases in Hungary
According to G7, a Hungarian economy-focused news outlet, nine out of the 20 wealthiest Hungarians are government-close billionaires. In 2010, only two of them were in the top 100. You may check out a spectacular infographic in their article where you may see government-close businessmen in orange (the official colour of Fidesz).
The nine government-close businessmen’s wealth increase reached 232-fold between 2010 and 2025. Lőrinc Mészáros increased his wealth 200-fold between 2014 and 2025. Meanwhile, the prime minister’s son-in-law, István Tiborcz, acquired HUF 188 billion in just 7 years.
The rest of the top 20, 11 Hungarian businessmen not regarded as government-close, reached a 7.5-fold wealth increase.
