Since the end of pandemic restrictions, more and more destinations are available from Budapest Airport. There is more good news for travellers, as the number of destinations available from the Hungarian capital will increase even further this spring.

A few days ago, Eszter Almási, flight operations manager of Budapest Airport, announced the airport’s newest developments and future plans at a professional conference. The event was reported in detail by turizmusonline.hu.

Increased number of destinations on offer

Almási said at the event that the number of passengers in 2019, which was 16 million, had fallen to 3.8 million on Budapest flights during the pandemic. However, they are now predicting 14 million passengers this year, and next year they believe they can reach the 2019 numbers again.

As for flights, according to Almási, everything is nearly in line with pre-pandemic numbers. She said that there are now 112 destinations available from the Budapest Airport, with a total of 37 airlines. She added that transatlantic flights and certain flights to France have not yet returned though.

However, she was pleased to announce that a number of new flights will start from Budapest Airport in the spring. From 13 March, Air Serbia is going to operate flights between Budapest and Belgrade. It is planned to increase the frequency of flights on this route. By May, they plan to have 17 flights per week on the Budapest-Belgrade route.

Ryanair is going to offer flights to Belfast from 27 March. The route to Belfast will operate twice a week.

Air Connect is introducing two flights a week to Bucharest from 28 March.

Kuwait Airways is also debuting a new route network. The carrier will offer flights to Kuwait twice a week between June and September.

Moreover, she mentioned that in the summer there would be frequent connections between Seoul and Budapest. LOT and Korean Air will operate 7 flights a week between the two cities.

Wizz Air is adding the following new destinations to its list this year: the two Turkish cities Antalya, and Istanbul, and Damman in Saudi Arabia. There will be daily flights to Istanbul, three weekly flights to Antalya and two weekly flights to Damman.

In addition, she said, the parking lot in front of Terminal 2 has started to be rebuilt. It is planned to provide space for an additional 586 cars and 8 tourist buses from June this year.

The renovated Terminal 1, which will be twice as large as before, will open to passengers in the summer of 2025 at the latest. Planning has also started for the construction of Terminal 3. The first stages of this project are expected to be completed by 2030.
