New university opens in Hungary; Harvard-Semmelweis joint programme starts – video

A new United Nations University will open in Kőszeg, in western Hungary, the minister of culture and innovation said on Facebook on Tuesday.

Balázs Hankó said the new institution will be hosted by Kőszeg’s Institute for Higher Studies, based on the Hungarian News Agency.

The minister said the new institution of higher education was being organised under the motto of peace and security, adding that Hungary serves as a bridge between East and West.

Harvard-Semmelweis joint programme

A new nine-month joint programme is to launch, born of a collaboration between Harvard, one of the world’s top five universities, and Budapest’s Semmelweis University.

Balázs Hankó attributed the partnership to Semmelweis’s status as Central and Eastern Europe’s leading higher-education institution—and its position in the global top 1 per cent. He added that the Hungarian government has backed the initiative.
