Another Hungarian Pálinka receives protected geographical indication
The European Commission passed the decision on the 25th of March to give the “Vasi vadkörte pálinka” the protected geographical indication thus raising the number of Hungarian products with such indication to 66 in total.
24 reported that with “Vasi vadkörte pálinka” receiving the EU Geographical indication the total number of Hungarian pálinkas with a geographical indication has risen to nine. The following names are also protected: Pálinka, Törkölypálinka, Békési szilvapálinka (plum), Szatmári szilvapálinka (plum), Gönci barackpálinka (apricot), Kecskeméti barackpálinka (apricot), Szabolcsi almapálinka (apple), Újfehértói meggypálinka (sour cherry).

According to 24, “Vasi vadkörte pálinka” can only be produced in factories located in the counties of Vas and Zala, using only wild pears collected from those territories.
The high proportion of wild pears has characteristic of the drink has a significant effect on the aroma as well. It has a pronounced wild pear aroma and spicy honey notes.
