Budapest offers free public transport to children from today!
The municipal assembly of Budapest decided to make public transport free for users under 14 in a unanimous vote on Wednesday. The measure takes effect from today.
The move was aimed at “luring people back” to trams and buses, and the city expects parents taking small children to school to prefer public transport, too. According to the proposal,
public transport user numbers have dropped by 30-40 percent since 2019 due to the coronavirus pandemic, and revenues dropped by 30 billion forints (EUR 86.2m).
