suicide rate by country

There is not much new under the sun for those people who frequently follow statistics as Hungary usually does quite bad on suicide rankings. This is actually the main topic of a world-famous Hungarian song, Gloomy Sunday. Even though there has been a slight improvement in the past years, the following video demonstrates how Hungary was in the top 10 for more than 40 years(1955-1996)! The country even held the first place for 28 years (1960-1988).

  1. It’s not a surprise, since Hungary is one of the most corrupt country in the world. The average income is around £250/month, so you do the math. The government says you can live on that amount, but they live on much bigger amount! So they have no idea how bad the salary in this country and for that people fall into depression, stress etc…so no wonder why people choose to leave the world… It’s sad!

  3. This was true when Hungary was behind the iron curtain, once it fell, the suicide rate dropped. It hasn’t been in top 20 for almost 30 years.
