If you have ever been to Hungary, you have probably been advised to try lángos, a simple but amazing Hungarian food. But did you know that most Hungarians associate the beach with lángos? The reason behind is that many of us grew up on holidays at Lake Balaton, where lángos is an indispensable part of most beach buffets.
This video by Nosalty features a trusty recipe. Ingredients in order of appearance: 1 dl of milk, 1 teaspoon of sugar, 25 grams of yeast, 300 grams of flour, salt and aprox. 1,5 dl of water. Spare a thought for us simple English readers, It has taken years for us to almost get used to metric measurements (although we have a mix and match system, so miles not km, beer in pints not litres, property sizes in ft2 not m2 etc) but dl’s and dg’s are totally beyond us. I can remember my mother (Hungarian) sending me to our local (London) supermarket to buy 40 decagrams of ham and me returning home because the delicatessen counter had no idea what 40 decagrams meant. Nor did I. Had I said 14oz (ounces) or 400 grams, all would have been clear.
