Given the negative demographic trends, Hungary will cease to exist in just a few hundred years. Some estimates indicate that Hungary’s population currently at about 9.8 million will be as low as 6.5 million by 2060. This steep population decline (over 50,000+ per year) is occurring not only in Hungary proper but also in the surrounding states of Ukraine, Romania, Serbia, Croatia, Slovenia, Austria and Slovakia.
