World of Hungary 1938-40 exhibition in the National Museum
Eighty years ago, in 1938–1940, Hungary was changing. The shackles of Trianon seemed to be broken by the peaceful territorial revisions, however, the direct neighbourhood of the Third Reich and her growing influence, and later the erupting WW II threatened the Hungarian self-determination.
This era is the golden age of cafes and Hungarian films when during the Saint István commemoration year and Eucharistic World Congress Hungarians proved to stick to their Christian roots and millions of Hungarians returned to the homeland.
Although, the two anti-Jewish acts were born, and antisemitism intensified perceptibly while problems of the rural society also required solution.
The aim of this exhibition is to show the political, social and artistic life of the era by interactive tools, 20 thematic parts and a café as contemporaries saw it giving a snapshot by Hungary at the end of the 1930s.
