No Hungarians in Danger in Iraq, Says Ministry
(MTI) – Hungarian citizens are not in danger in Iraq, as there have been no Hungarians reported to be staying in dangerous regions, Anna Nagy, a spokeswomen for the Foreign Ministry, said on Wednesday.
There are no Hungarians in the areas controlled by the Islam State, which is currently the dangerous part of Iraq, she told MTI.
Hungarians are reportedly staying in the Kurdistan region and southern parts inhabited by Shiites, which are more secure places. Some Hungarians turned to the consulate in Iraq for help and were assisted, but there are no ongoing cases now, she said.
A new Hungarian consulate will open in future in the northern city of Erbil, but this is also not in a dangerous area, Nagy added.
