Nostalgia trams, buses, trolley buses and metro began to commute in Budapest today! – PHOTOS

The nostalgia season started today with tram, bus, and trolley bus classics commuting on different Budapest routes. Compared to last year, a serious development is that you can pay by card on the spot, and retro schedules have been expanded. At the end of the season, you may travel with Tamara, the first Soviet Budapest metro carriage fully restored recently.

According to the Budapest Transport Company (BKK), 2025 will be more spectacular concerning nostalgic public transport vehicles than any other year before. Therefore, BKK increases capacity, introduces new lines and stations into the timetable and introduces on-site paying by credit/bank card.

Astonishing nostalgia tram routes in Budapest

Among trams, you will be able to travel on lines 2, 18 and 19. Tram line nr 2 has been chosen as one of the world’s most beautiful tram routes multiple times, so travelling on it with a nostalgia tram can be an exceptional program for the entire family. Travelling on tram line nr 2 (N2) enables you to see the Buda side from Pest while passing Budapest’s magnificent bridges, the Academy of Sciences, the beautiful Redout, the Hungarian Parliament or get a glimpse of the Danube palace row of the Pest side.

Travel on the N19 nostalgia tram and discover the unrivalled panorama of the Buda Danube bank. On your journey, you’ll pass imposing buildings, famous baths and market halls, bridges and lush parks. At Deák Ferenc Square, you can visit the Small Underground Museum and reach the Buda Castle Hill Funicular.

Get nostalgic with the N18 nostalgia tram running on the route Szent János Hospital-Széll Kálmán Square-Krisztina Boulevard-Szent Gellért Sqare-Bartók Béla Street-Csóka Street. From the shady trees of Városmajor, this line will take you to the Danube bank with its magnificent panorama, and then you can travel all the way to Csóka Street in Kelenföld.

Bus and metro

The cabrio Ikarus 630 bus will carry passengers on bus line nr 109. The route is a downtown loop. HERE you may check out how the trams and bus look.

Nostalgia tickets will cost HUF 500 (EUR 1.25), while the daily ticket is HUF 2,000 (EUR 5).

BKV is preparing a surprise for the end of the nostalgia season. You may get on a ride on Tamara, the first Soviet metro carriage Budapest received. The metro will commute during the night on the red line (metro line nr 2). The nostalgia season will last until the end of October.
