Now is your chance to buy the Budapest Whale, don’t miss it!
Szeretlek Magyarország has discovered that the Budapest Whale cultural centre is on sale at the biggest Hungarian real estate market website. You can make it your own just for 11 billion Forints (EUR 35m).
‘The Whale is a trade-, cultural-, entertainment- and hosting centre. It is a distinguished view, just like Budapest is – observed from the inside of the Whale” – states the owner of the building, the City of Budapest. The Whale was supposed to be an important connecting point in the city: it is connected to the Great Market Hall, to the main building and campus of Corvinus University of Budapest, and to the inner region of Ferencváros. However, it was never used to its full potential.
Its opening took years to begin with: the original opening date was set to be in 2010, but there were quarrels between the city, the developing company and the contractor, already at the time of the construction.
Finally, it was opened exactly four years ago, on the 8th of November 2013.
The General Assembly of Budapest reviewed the selling of the building last time this September. It was agreed in the purchase contract that the lowest price for which the Whale should be sold is EUR 35m. It was agreed at that time that the sale will be sold openly. As the final step, the advertisement was uploaded to ingatlan.com website.
The ad looks like a regular one, almost as if it was offering a flat or an open area for a shop, but there’s a catch: the price. No regular flat would cost 35 million Euros in Budapest.
If you would like to make a bid, you would have to purchase the competition dossier for around 9 thousand Euros.
The winner would have to pay an additional cost of 19 thousand Euros above the 35 million for the goods that come with the Whale.
