Number of foreign students at Hungarian universities keeps increasing
Bence Rétvári, state secretary of the Ministry for Human Resources recently stated that in the last five years the number of international students at Hungarian universities increased rapidly which also means that our universities’ reputation is getting more and more favourable abroad.
According to napi.hu, the recently revealed statistics showed that between 2012 and 2017 the percentage of foreign students increased from 7% to 12%.
Most of these foreign students come from European countries (64%), but some of them are from Asia (23%) and even from Africa (7%). Many students come from Germany, Slovakia, Romania, Serbia, and China.
The Hungarian universities’ reputation is getting better and better!
The Academic Ranking of World Universities in 2018 chose five Hungarian institutions among the best one thousand while the Times Higher Education’s 2019 ranking chose seven Hungarian ones among the best ones in the world. Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) 2019 research also ranked the Hungarian universities and picked six institutions on their list.
These universities, for example, are Semmelweis University, University of Pannonia in Veszprém, Eötvös Lóránd University and the Corvinus University of Budapest.
The number of Ph.D. students, who study at universities with state-sponsored semesters, also keeps increasing. From September 2019, instead of 1300 students, 2000 can start their studies at Hungarian institutions which is a 53% growth.
