NY Times: Viktor Orbán shows US Republicans how to build a dictatorship

Hungary United States Viktor Orbán

The American journal has recently published an article that analyses in detail the Hungarian political system, putting into focus the regime of PM Viktor Orbán.

The article recalls the opening speech of PM Viktor Orbán at the Conservative Political Action Conference held last week. In his speech, the Hungarian Prime Minister educated the audience on how to defeat the liberal left, reported Nyugati Fény.

According to the left-wing journal, “Mr Orban has received attention in the United States for promoting global culture wars, defending Christian civilisation, ethnic purity, and traditional gender roles against “woke” challenges,” wrote The New York Times.

They say that in order to stay in power, the Hungarian prime minister has played by his own rules.

Since coming to power in 2010, Viktor Orbán has changed hundreds of laws, including the Constitution. Businesses that do not support the government have not been allowed to operate, and funding for opposition-led towns has been cut off to make them look weak and powerless. Little by little, he has removed all the checks and balances, building a real tyrannical system for himself, the article says.

According to the American journal, based on this principle, the American conservative admirers of Orbán also took similar political actions. As a result, during Trump’s presidency, political punishment became a way of doing business in America. In addition, there was continuous cooperation between them, meaning that in 2010, Republican political consultants helped with Mr Orban’s election victory, and similarly, Mr Orbán’s team helped with the Trump 2016 campaign.

Among the “political paybacks”, the journal mentions that the Hungarian PM used his power to “shift business from unfriendly hands to friendly ones,” which includes tobacco to be licensed by the state, the media, as well as banking, energy, and telecom sectors. The businesses that failed to support the governing party were sidelined.

In the article, Donald Trump and Republican politicians are accused of similar political actions.

Namely, the former US president refused to greenlight development projects supported by the opposition and refused to provide financial support to non-voting regions. During his presidency, he put the media on his side and “picked fights with perceived opponents,” like the owner of Amazon, Jeff Bezos, who openly criticised him.

Among the most recent efforts, the article mentions revoking Disney’s special law status. Disney is being punished by the state’s Republican leadership because the entertainment company protested against a new homophobic law that limits to what degree LGBT issues can be discussed in schools. According to the article, this can be linked to the Hungarian law that PM Viktor Orbán passed in Hungary, banning the display of LGBTQ content to minors. In Hungary, this happens legally. As a clever lawyer, Viktor Orbán can control everything that matters in his country. Similarly, Mr Ron DeSantis, the Republican initiator of “Don’t Say Gay” seems to have similar control in Florida.

This such a joke – I feel sorry for anyone who buys any of it. Let’s startwiththe LGBT issue- discussing and teaching are very different. The dem canidate for 2024 husband school teacher has his young students pledge to the rainbow flag instead of the US flag. Disney and other media corperations and NGOs were behind pushing the same in the EU. China now controls Hollywood but they won’t be grooming children in China – by far their biggest market.
The best one is the RNC helped Obran get elected in 2010. Around the same time the Obama- with Biden his man in Ukraine along with the EU played a big role in the revolt In Ukraine and triggered the Crimea event. This while Biden and his son were making millions in Ukraine along with China. These are the same folks who impeached trump twice – this over 5 minutes of phone call to Ukraine. These clowns are still around- so much for silence if them. News flash – 90% of the media bashed and lied about trump everyday and it continues. It took the NYT two years to cover Biden’s sons laptop that covers years of the corruption that took place with many witnesses. You can’t blame the NYT times as they were working with the highest levels of the goverment still pushing Russian disinformation worse than when trump was elected. Last weeks trial of hillary pals- her campaign manager saidHillary approved the lies. Little coverage from the now a joke NYT. 90% of the media is silent on it – that Trump has really got control of them. They had no problem with him being banned from social media.
There would be no war in Ukraine if not for these people- they would like nothing better than add Hungary to the list. You look like fools even putting out this story.

How can they call a dictatorship when it won democratic elections???? The people ELECTED this government. The leftists degenerates never want to respect the votes if they are not of the same ideology as theirs

Orbán changes the Hungarian Constitution as often as most people change their underwear. It is not so easy to change the Constitution in the USA.

Just mentioning the NYT you are in line for Pulitzer Prize – the highest award in journalism – name comes from a Hungarian American. The NYT has won it twice in several years. The first being the Trump Russia coverage that went on for years
and is the reason he won in 2016. Just last week the Clinton campaign manager testified she approved the lie to media and intelligent agency’s. Her lawyer is on trial for lying to the FBI and they Al knew it wasn’t true.
Second Pulitzer is their story that the US was founded on racism and slavery. It’s now being taught in many schools along with trasitioning your sex – no parent consent needed at any age.. Anyone from white European heritage are racist and the NYT and the majority media push it daily including the president. Blacks who did not vote for him are black supremest.
Sounds crazy right – you can’t make this shit up.

@Bronco perhaps you can explain why you need to introduce Rule by Decree if (to your point) Fidesz already have a massive parliamentary majority?

As long as a country is governed by executive orders and law enacted ignored, that country qualifies as a dictatorship. This doubly applies to the USA.

@marievontheresa, the extent to which executive orders can be used in the USA is actually quite limited, most matters still have to pass through Congress and the Senate. The situation in Hungary (which you would know if you lived here and not in Canada) is that Orbán has bypassed ALL parliamentary processes and can rule directly by decree, whatever his whim. Democracy has been suspended because there is no debate of any sort now.

Orban is not always good, but because he refuses to be part of the globalist club (the elite meeting in Davos) that club wants to destroy him. The same with Trump. He was not part of the Republican or Democrat inside circles, so they hated him and tried to destroy him many times.

The lies and fake stories about Trump and Orban should tell you that the globalists only want compliance to their will. They do not want independent thinkers or populists.

Given full control, those in Davos would be the real dictators.
