“Dear Donald, don’t raise your hopes too high”, said PM Orbán, then criticised his own son-in-law’s luxury life

Polish Premier Donald Tusk talked earlier about a possible Huxit, but PM Orbán reacted in a harsh X (Twitter) post, clearing his plans concerning the EU. Later, Orbán criticised his own son-in-law, the husband of Ráhel Orbán, István Tiborcz, one of the wealthiest Hungarians, for his luxurious life.

Will Hungary leave the EU?

According to Infostart, Orbán reacted to Donald Tusk’s Huxit speculations in an X tweet. He said, “Dear Donald, don’t raise your hopes too high. Hungary will not leave the EU. We will transform it with the @PatriotsEU, to restore it to what it once was when Poland and Hungary joined. Back then, Brussels bureaucrats served the people instead of themselves. Back then…”

Before, Donald Tusk wrote in an X post that “PM Orbán is now speaking openly about Hungary leaving the European Union. It was worth winning the elections so Kaczyński’s dream of a “Budapest in Warsaw” would never come true. That is also at stake in the upcoming elections”, Tusk added.

The traditional friendship between Poland and Hungary reached historic depths in the last few years due to the differing stances of Budapest and Warsaw concerning the ongoing war in Ukraine, Russia’s position in Europe and how a country should react to Russia’s expansion plans.

We wrote HERE that on Wednesday, Orbán participated in a forum in Pilisvörösvár and said it would not be a good idea to leave the EU now because it would not be better outside, and a Huxit would not do good for our trade. However, he added that Trump asked him to leave the EU. Therefore, RTL Klub asked the Hungarian PM whether he regarded that bid as an intervention into Hungary’s sovereignty. Orbán only said it depends on whether Trump was joking.

Orbán expressed criticism about István Tiborcz’s luxury life

Orbán’s oldest daughter, Ráhel Orbán, married István Tiborcz in September 2013. Since then, Tiborcz has become one of the wealthiest Hungarians. In 2024, he was the 15th wealthiest, doubling his assets in only one year. We covered how he got rich in THIS article.

After the Pilisvörösvár forum, 24.hu asked PM Orbán whether he understands people who are outraged by the luxurious life some politicians, businesspeople wearing luxury bags, using luxury cars, lead. Orbán gave a laconic answer: “Of course”. Photos of Orbán’s son-in-law, István Tiborcz, getting out of an extremely expensive Ferrari, emerged in the Hungarian media.

Tiborcz told HVG that those who are successful in business, or particularly wealthy, have a duty to support community purposes and set an example with their conduct and behaviour. He listed several charity actions, support programs and other initiatives he and his companies help people and communities with.
